Paul Walker, a star of the “Fast & Furious” movie franchise, died Saturday after a car crash, according to his official Facebook page and verified Twitter account. He was 40.
I was quickly annoyed (but not quite made to be Furious, Fast) that ABC News thought the death of some guy I never heard of who was in some car movies I’ve never seen was an important enough alert to send push-notifications about but now I see over a dozen posts about it on Facebook running the sirens on this important news and am even more confused.
Is it that the dude was a bigger star than I had realized? or that the movies are bigger than I had realized? I know they made like 24 of them, but I don’t see the same reaction happening if one of the recurring characters from the 2 dozen SAW movies passed away.
Can someone educate me on the cultural significance of this loop I am clearly not within? That way I can keep my Googling limited to cartoons and various cheeses and other things that really matter in life.
Clearly this guy must have been doing something right since I’m seeing so much love and remorse pour out in his honor. The world is clearly poorer without him, even though I don’t yet know what it was he was beloved for. Sad.
